BROOM PERSON

I, Erin Rouse, am a Custodian.

I’m sculptor-turned-broom maker raised in Baltimore (scrappy can-do attitude), educated in Washington D.C. (RIP Corcoran) and Houston (penchant for big hair, impervious to heat) and proud to be a New Yorker for over a decade (poppy seed, un-toasted, dill cream cheese). I worked for and with some of the most amazing people including Martha Stewart, Ayesha Patel and Lindsey Adelman. I’m a luddite and a compulsive researcher and I prefer to do things the right way, bonus points if it’s the hard way (blame that Catholic upbringing).

Custodian is inspired by research and traditional techniques, art & design, fashion, and books.

Philosophy

I strive to use the nicest possible materials with the best possible technique. I want to love everything in my home and assume you do too. This means using natural dye stuffs, recipes from the Middle Ages, American grown wood, American made wire, nails from the oldest American nail maker, GOTS linen and cotton cord, and recyclable packaging.
